Product Description
Four days after Abigail Browning's wedding, her life changed unimaginably: her husband was fatally shot along the rocky Mount Desert Island coast. Was it a random act of violence, or could someone have wanted Christopher dead? That's the question that has haunted Abigail, now a homicide detective, for the past seven years.

Determined to find her husband's killer, she returns to the foggy Maine island after receiving an anonymous tip. Is it just another false lead, or can she finally prove that Chris was murdered?

Owen Garrison, the search-and-rescue worker who located Chris too late to save him, still carries guilt from that fateful night. As he helps Abigail unravel the mystery, they learn that the layers of deceit and lies are even thicker than they could have imagined. Now it's up to Abigail and Owen to keep pushing for the truth and stop a killer from striking again...

2 out of 5 stars 2.5 Stars For The Second Half...........Reviewer: Sucker For Freebies, N.Y.C.   July 20, 2010
I had read 50% of this book (by Kindle reckoning) before it started to get interesting. While I appreciated the time Neggers took to introduce the main players and the back story, all of that was more repetitive than it needed to be and dragged on too long. I was just about to give up when things finally got going. The second half of the book made up for the slowness of the beginning. I can't say I was stumped, since I had my suspicions about who the killer was from pretty early on, but Neggers did a nice job of weaving all the strands together so that each new revelation fell neatly into place, mating with things you'd already been told. I also liked the tinge of Gothic mystery that she added, though it was only a tinge - Abigail was too sensible a character to really fit the profile. My one reservation was that the original attack on Abigail was never really explained to my satisfaction, but that was a relatively minor fault, consideing the outcome. Not bad for a free book. I'll remember this author for rainy day no - think reads.

I really enjoyed this book. It kept my interest and kept me turning pages (kindle clicking). The story was interesting and somewhat plausible. I recommend this for a good entertaining book.

I would not recommend this book. It is poorly written, lacks suspense, and is so boring I found it difficult to continue reading.

Free doesn't mean boring...this book was so great I had to stay up and finish it. I am definitely looking into Carla Neggers other books.
