Product Description Outspoken Russian writer Alexander Kurbsky wanted to "disappear" into the West. To avoid the wrath of the ruling elite, he makes elaborate plans with covert experts Charles Ferguson and Sean Dillon for his escape.
It's a real coup for the West-except for one thing: Kurbsky is still working for the Russians. And his master plan is about to unfold.

A Very Good Spy Novel June 15, 2010 K. Thalheimer (Long Island, NY) Alex Kurbsky, the Russian defector, is much more the main character in this book than Sean Dillon, though it's a Dillon series book.
Some of the plot seems a bit contrived. But, on the whole, Mr. Higgins appears to have thought his tale out well since it comes together very neatly at the end.
I didn't find this a blockbuster, but it's an entertaining novel. Pay attention to the read there are quite a number of characters in the story. The character of Kurbsky & some of his cohorts are very entertaining
Very hard to get into May 7, 2010 Ronna Guidera (Utah) I got this for a long drive across the states. I tried a few times to get into it by starting over and I just could not get into it. I gave it to my husband and he did not care for it either.
A Darker Place April 18, 2010 Eugene J. Walden (Lake Saint Louis, MO) It was surprising to note the various opinions expressed in the reviews of "A Darker Place". They seemed to be all over the spectrum. As for me, there were times when I stop reading and looked at the cover to assure myself it was Higgins I was reading. And, were all the flashbacks necessary? Did they really have and serve a purpose?
Higgins is a prolific writer, as evidenced by all the novels he has written, but has he now reached the saturation poing where he is really stretching him imagination? Usually his words hold you, and evoke the mental pictures he
wants you to see. He is a master at stories of intrigue but "A Darker Place" does not really illustrate his true writing ability. I found the novel lacking in substance and interest.

Haven't read the book yet, but looking forward to it. I have been a fan of Jack Higgins character Sean Dillion for quite a while.

Alternate title 1: AUTHOR OVER THE HILL. This was pretty pathetic. Gossamer plot, no character development, few action sequences, no truly devious villains, and the usual cast of characters does not develop a devious counter strategy. Seems the dangers to the good guys mostly evaporate. The past master Higgins needs to hire a ghost writer like Cussler and the the long dead Ludlum--they produce better novels than the last several Higgins books.
Alternate title 2: THE GANG THAT DRANK TOGETHER. I think if you add it all up there are probably more words devoted to all the booze the characters drank than there are to the plot. Wherever two or more are gathered, there must be booze.
